Opp finishes runner-up at 3A Area 4 Tournament

Opp split a pair of matches and earned the 3A Area 4 runner-up spot Tuesday.

The three-seed Bobcats (5-19) downed two-seed New Brockton 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17) in the semi-finals to advance to the championship.

Cuba Wiggins paced OHS with 7 kills, 4 aces, and 3 blocks in the win. Alli Butler added 6 kills and 11 digs while Brittany Strickland collected 7 aces. Megan Pinson had 16 digs, and Haylei Henegan notched 10 assists.

Opp fell to tournament host and top seed Goshen 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 26-24) in the area title match.

Butler finished with 3 kills and 5 digs as Taylor Osborn also added 3 kills. Brooke Mosley chipped in 6 assists, and Pinson had 7 digs. Strickland tallied 2 aces, and Wiggins scored 2 blocks.

The Bobcats advance to the South Super Regional in Montgomery next week and meet Area 7 winner Beulah Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 11:30 a.m.

In other action Tuesday, two seed Red Level fell to three seed McKenzie 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-19) at the 1A Area 3 Tournament in Brantley and ended the season with a 5-10 record.
