Historical Society honored with state award
The Covington Historical Society was notified on Friday that it is the recipient of the 2016 James Ray Kuykendall Award, which will be presented at the 2016 Alabama Historical Association Annual Meeting in Montgomery on April 15.
Named for the late James Ray Kuykendall, AHA past president and founding president of Landmarks of DeKalb County, the award honors a local historical society in Alabama for outstanding achievements and for significant contributions to a greater appreciation of community and state history. The award is given in even-numbered years.
Sue Bass Wilson said the local organization’s nomination for the award included documentation of the historical society activities for the past 10 years, included samples of newsletters, and a list of every program submitted in the past 40 years.
In notifying the local organization of the honor, the juges wrote, “We … could easily see you placed much time, love and labor to prepare and submit your application packet.”
